The Church Steeple is being repaired and will be completed in two weeks.  We need for each member to make a financial contribution of at least $100.00 on or before April 29,2018.



 

**Seeking Experienced Minister of Music**

Minister of Music: Seeking an experienced minister of music to develop and lead the worship music ministry for our church in consultation with the senior pastor.  Duties include producing and directing special programs, ability to organize, coordinate and motivate choir members in several choirs, provide musical accompaniment for evening choir rehearsals and other services, select music based upon the musical gifts of the choirs, and possess vocal and instrumental skills.  Skills include proficiency in playing piano and organ, proficiency in reading music, and proficiency in choral/instrumental accompaniment.  Any combination of education and experience equivalent to graduation from an accredited college or university with a degree in Music or Music Education or related field is preferred.  A minimum of three years of experience in a church related setting may be substituted for two years of education.  The successful candidate is subject to a background investigation.  Salary range $25,000 - $29,000 depending upon qualifications and experience.  Estimated 15-18 hours per week.

Minister of Music

Purpose: To develop and lead the worship music ministry for St. John’s A.M.E. Church in consultation with the senior pastor in a way that is consistent with the Doctrine and Discipline of the A.M.E. Church, our mission, values and theology.

TASKS:

  1. The Minister of Music shall provide the Church with music as needed for regular and special worship services (i.e. Christmas, Easter)
  2. The Minister of Music shall recruit, lead, teach and encourage people to use their musical gifts to the glory of God.
  3. The Minister of Music shall rehearse choirs weekly with written agendas to be passed out.
  4. The Minister of Music shall insure that the choir is prepared when called upon by the Pastor for outreach services.
  5. He/she shall provide musical accompaniment for Wednesday evening prayer services and funerals.
  6. If unable to attend a worship service or other services requiring musical accompaniment, the Minister of Music shall be responsible for securing and paying any substitute pianist/organist needed to cover service he/she is scheduled for with the approval of the senior pastor.
  7. He/she shall submit the titles of selections for service to senior pastor in a timely fashion.

SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

  1. Proficiency in playing both piano and organ.
  2. Proficiency in sight reading music.
  3. Experience with diverse styles of music.
  4. Proficiency in choral/instrumental accompaniment.
  5. Must have strong organizational and communications skills.
  6. Must have a clear understanding of the relationship between the theology of music as a part of worship.
  7. Ability to direct the choirs in various types of music.
  8. Dependable responsible, self-motivated and creative.
